ScreenStorm
record, zoom, polish, share
Screen capture that looks designed, not dumped.
ScreenStorm is a precision screen recorder and screenshot tool for Windows. Capture a window, region or the whole screen; let the Pro Zoom engine follow your clicks; polish it on a real timeline with overlays, blur and audio; and export a crisp MP4, WebM or GIF.
- No ads
- No watermark
- No telemetry
- No account
- No expiry
ScreenStorm is not code-signed, so Windows or your browser may show a caution prompt on download or first run. Choose Keep, then Run anyway. It installs per-user, with no admin rights required.
Verify your download (optional)
Confirm the file is genuine and untampered by checking its SHA-256 checksum against the one below. Nothing to install. The tools are built into Windows.
SHA-256: e0728ee55d5e57942e1608e363ef619771f014290786689720481689186fdb38
- PowerShell: Get-FileHash .\ScreenStorm-Setup.exe
- Command Prompt: certutil -hashfile ScreenStorm-Setup.exe SHA256
- 7-Zip: right-click the file → CRC SHA → SHA-256
The value must match the checksum above (case does not matter). You can also grab the checksum file. If it does not match, do not run it. Re-download and check again.

Precision capture
Fullscreen, a region you draw, or a single window, plus an always-ready capture bar (Ctrl+Shift+C). Every shot auto-saves its original and copies a styled version to your clipboard.
Pro zoom engine
Auto-Zoom watches where you click and smoothly zooms in to follow the action, with cursor-follow, a dead zone and spring easing. Drop in manual keyframes when you want full control.
Record with overlays
Capture screen, region or window, GPU-accelerated at up to 120 FPS, with an animated cursor and on-screen keystrokes so viewers can follow every step.
A real editing timeline
Trim, scrub and preview with audio waveforms, then add timed blur, text, rectangle and arrow overlays right on the track. A per-track mixer balances system audio, mic and music.
Projects you can reopen
Save your whole edit (media plus every tweak) as a self-contained .ssp project, then pick up exactly where you left off, even after the clip has left your recent history.
Export anywhere
MP4 (H.264), WebM (VP9) and clean two-pass animated GIF, with quality presets and hardware encoders (NVENC / AMF / QSV). Recognize on-screen text with a click, too.
Everything it does
From capture to a polished export: the whole toolbox, explained.
Screenshots
- Three capture modes. Grab the full screen, a region you draw, or a single window. On multi-monitor setups, pick the display by click or key press.
- Always-ready capture bar. A compact toolbar (Ctrl+Shift+C) stays on top so a shot is one click away; choosing a window captures it instantly.
- Auto-save + instant clipboard. Every capture saves its original PNG to disk and copies the styled version straight to your clipboard.
- Countdown. A short countdown before capture so you can get the screen ready.
Screenshot styling
- Framing. Adjustable padding, corner radius and output size, with a drop shadow you control (opacity, blur, spread).
- Backgrounds. Solid colours, gradients, your own image (with blur), or a fully tunable animated shader background.
- Annotations. Arrows and a redaction blur, each with per-object undo plus clear-all.
- Emoji stickers. Place, drag, resize and rotate emoji from a built-in picker; they render into the export.
- Zoom to cursor. Mouse-wheel zoom toward the pointer while you style the shot.
Recording
- Screen, region or window. GPU-accelerated capture (NVIDIA / AMD / Intel) at 30, 60 or 120 FPS.
- Pause, resume, stop. Full control mid-recording, with global hotkeys that work even when the app is hidden. Audio stays in sync however often you pause.
- Stays out of the shot. Once the countdown ends the app minimizes itself, and a small floating control with the timer, Pause and Stop stays on top without ever appearing in the video. Stop brings the app back with your clip open.
- Audio. System sound and microphone are captured as separate tracks so you can balance or drop either one later.
- Webcam picture-in-picture. Record your webcam alongside the screen. In the editor it becomes a movable bubble: resize it, make it a circle or rounded rectangle, add a border and shadow, mirror it, and nudge its sync against the screen.
- Cursor. Show or hide the real cursor in the recording.
Editing timeline
- Trim & cut. Trim the ends or cut sections out of the middle; only the parts you keep are exported, seamlessly joined.
- Freeze-frame. Hold a frame in place for a set time to give viewers a beat to read, then drag to resize it or slide it along the track.
- Playback speed. Speed up or slow down any range from 0.25× to 4×, with a preserve-pitch toggle so voices stay natural. Fast and slow spans show as labelled bands, and the export shortens or stretches to match.
- Delete edits. Remove any freeze, speed zone or overlay with a click or the Delete key.
- Auto-save. Your in-progress edits survive an app restart.
Pro Zoom engine
- Auto-Zoom. Detects where you click and smoothly zooms in to follow the action, with spring easing (and motion blur in the editor preview).
- Manual keyframes. Drop your own zoom keyframes and set focus X/Y when you want full control.
- Cursor-follow & dead zone. The zoom can track the cursor while held, with a dead zone so tiny movements don’t cause jitter.
Overlays & cursor
- Animated cursor & keystrokes. A smoothed cursor and an on-screen keystroke overlay so viewers can follow every step.
- Blur, text, arrows & boxes. Add timed overlays right on the timeline: blur to hide sensitive info, plus text, rectangles and arrows.
- Overlay motion. Animate an overlay’s position, size and opacity across keyframes with fade in/out, perfect for making the webcam move or disappear between sections.
Intro, outro & title cards
- Cards anywhere. Insert a full-screen card at the start, the end, or anywhere on the timeline.
- Any background. A solid colour, a gradient, a still image, or a video clip that loops to fill the card.
- Text, logo & fades. A centered title and subtitle in your choice of font, an optional logo, and fade in/out at the card’s edges.
- Card audio. Give a card its own audio clip, or mix in the sound from a video background.
Audio & music
- Per-track mixer. Balance system audio, mic and music with volume and mute, so what you hear is what you export. Your mix is remembered for new recordings.
- Mic sync. Laptop and noise-cancelling mics often arrive a little late, which sounds like an echo. Slide the mic earlier until it lines up; it applies to playback and export alike.
- Background music. Add an MP3, WAV, AAC or OGG track, slide it into place, and it’s trimmed to length on export.
- Voice-over. Record narration onto the timeline with a pre-roll countdown; punch-in takes crossfade so you can fix a line without starting over.
Export
- MP4, WebM & GIF. H.264 MP4, VP9 WebM, and a clean two-pass animated GIF.
- Quality & encoders. Quality presets plus hardware encoders (NVENC / AMF / QSV), an encode-speed preset and a CRF slider.
- Audio & progress. Choose which audio to include; a live progress bar shows each phase and locks out duplicate exports.
Text recognition (OCR)
- Recognize text. Detect text in a screenshot and click any box to copy it, powered by the Windows OCR language packs already on your PC.
App & workflow
- Reopenable projects. Save a whole edit (media plus every tweak) as a self-contained .ssp project and pick up exactly where you left off. Unsaved changes are never discarded without asking first.
- History. Recent screenshots and recordings are one click from reopening.
- Hotkeys & tray. Configurable global hotkeys, a system-tray presence, single-instance focus, and launch-on-login.
- Yours, privately. 6 languages, a dark theme, custom save folders and a simple update check, with no ads, watermark, telemetry or account.
What's new
- v1.7.8latest
Fixes projects in the Recent list failing to open with a "forbidden path" error. ScreenStorm now protects unsaved edits: opening another project, a Recent or History item, closing the editor, or starting a new recording while you have unsaved changes asks whether to save, not save, or cancel first.
- v1.7.7
New Mic sync slider: laptop and noise-cancelling mics often arrive a little late (heard as an echo of the system audio), so shift the mic earlier until it lines up, in playback and export alike. Intro, outro and title cards get a font picker. Every dropdown now opens as a dark, readable list. With no microphone connected, the mic toggle is greyed out and recordings skip it cleanly.
- v1.7.6
New: while recording, a small floating control with the timer, Pause and Stop stays on top without appearing in the video, and the app minimizes itself out of the way, coming back when you stop. Fixes region screenshots, text recognition (OCR), screenshot history and the timeline audio waveforms, which had stopped working in 1.7.4. Record Area now captures audio from the first try, shows its red frame every time, lines up exactly with your selection (even with mixed display scaling) and drops the yellow outline around the whole screen. Pausing no longer knocks audio out of sync, mono and surround audio devices record at the right speed, exports are no longer quieter than the preview, a missing webcam no longer blocks a recording, the editor remembers your track volumes and mutes, and Brazilian Portuguese systems now open in Portuguese.
- v1.7.5
Fixes webcam picture-in-picture, which previously recorded no video or a frozen frame, and fixes audio not recording on some machines (it now handles more device formats). Recording starts with instant feedback: the countdown appears the moment you pick what to capture. New: a "Send report" button on the About screen builds a diagnostics log and opens a pre-filled email, so troubleshooting is easy. Also a tidied-up About screen.
- v1.7.4
Export reliability fixes so projects with an image or video title card, and recordings captured without audio, always export cleanly. You can now cancel an export while it is rendering, and jump straight to the file with a new “Show in folder” button. The monitor picker widens to show full monitor names, and a moved or deleted webcam recording no longer disrupts the editor, plus a broad security-hardening, performance and cleanup pass under the hood.
- v1.7.3
Intro, outro and title cards: add a branded card at the start, end, or anywhere on the timeline with a colour, gradient or image background, a logo, title and subtitle text, fade in/out, and an optional audio clip. Annotations now follow zoom keyframes so they stay pinned to the footage, Save, Save As, Open, Reveal folder and Recent projects are grouped into one File menu, and the in-app update check now works.
- v1.7.2
Webcam picture-in-picture, voice-over recording onto the timeline, and a playback-speed tool for slow-motion and speed-up with per-region pitch control. Overlays can now animate with motion keyframes, and freeze zones, speed zones and overlays are deletable with a click or the Delete key.
- v1.7.1
Fixes audio not being captured when recording the full screen, a Save-as menu that wouldn’t open, and the in-app update check. The editing timeline’s zoom now has an always-visible scroll bar and keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl +/−/0).
- v1.7.0
A real editing timeline: cut sections out of the middle of a recording and hold a freeze-frame to give viewers time to read, on a redesigned timeline you can scroll and zoom. Your in-progress edits now auto-save and survive an app restart.
- v1.6.0
Save and reopen editing projects as .ssp files, a window that remembers its size and position, a blur overlay for hiding sensitive regions, a close-to-tray option, and an easier per-user installer that sets up WebView2 for you.
- v1.5.0
Text, rectangle and arrow overlays you can place on the timeline, and text recognition (OCR) using the engine built into Windows.
Rust · Tauri · Windows
Capture that respects the details.
Most screen tools hand you a raw, shaky clip and leave the polishing to a separate editor. ScreenStorm does the whole job: it frames the shot, zooms to what you're doing, redacts what you don't want seen, mixes the audio, and exports something that looks intentional. Built natively on Rust and Tauri, it stays fast and light on Windows.
Under the hood
ScreenStorm is built on an MIT-licensed foundation and encodes with FFmpeg. Text recognition uses the Windows Native OCR engine and the language packs installed on your system. Runs on Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit.
