WavSniper guide
The idea is in your head now. The kick you need is somewhere in a folder you named years ago.
This guide gets you from that moment to the sound in your DAW. Press ? inside WavSniper any time for the shortcut list.
Scan your folders
Click + Add Folder and pick a sample folder. Add as many as you like.
Choose the file types to include (WAV, MP3, AIFF), then click Scan. A progress bar shows how far along the scan is.
WavSniper turns each folder and file name into tags. Drums\Kicks\big-punchy_kick 01.wav becomes the tags 01, big, drums, kick, kicks and punchy.
Your folders are remembered. By default WavSniper rescans them each time it starts. Rescans skip files that haven't changed, so they finish fast.
Find a sound
Type in a tag box to filter. Pick from the list or keep typing. Add more tag boxes with + tag; every box must match.
Tag boxes take wildcards: * for any run of letters, ? for any one letter, # for any digit. *ogg finds D1OGG and G1OGG.
The search box matches names, paths and tags. Click a column heading to sort by it. Clear resets every filter.
Hover a name for the full path. Hover the tags to see every tag, even the ones cut off at the edge of the column.
Listen
With Auto-play on, clicking a sample plays it. Use the up and down arrows to move through the list; each sample plays as you land on it.
Space pauses and resumes. The left and right arrows skip through long sounds, and Shift makes the steps finer. Click the waveform to jump to any point.
⏹ Stop stops playback and returns to the start of the sample.
Hearts
Click the ♡ in front of a name, or press F, to heart a sample. Hearts stay put when you rescan or move files.
Turn on ♥ only to see just your hearts. Combine it with a tag, then use the arrow keys to play through your favorites.
Drag into your DAW
Drag a row from WavSniper into your DAW or any app that takes files. Select several rows first to drag them all at once.
Amber rows hold FLAC or Ogg audio with a .wav name (see File types). When you drag one, WavSniper hands your DAW a standard WAV copy instead, made once and kept in Documents\WavSniper\Converted. The first time, it explains where the copy lives. Change the folder in ⚙.
Your DAW project points at that copy, so don't delete the folder. To keep a project self-contained, turn on your DAW's option to copy imported media into the project folder.
Right-click a row for Reveal in Explorer and Copy full path when you'd rather grab the file yourself.
Crates and kits
A crate is a named set of samples, like "Song X drums". Select rows and choose Add to crate… from the bar above the list or the right-click menu. The same window creates, renames and deletes crates.
Pick a crate in the filter bar to show just its samples. Press Ctrl + A to select them all and drag the whole crate into your DAW. Crates stay through rescans and moved files.
Export… copies the selected samples into a folder you pick: a kit for a project or a collaborator. Amber files come out as standard WAVs. Nothing is overwritten.
Recently dragged, in the same crate picker, lists the last 200 samples you dragged into your DAW, newest first.
Duplicates
Click Duplicates to see every file that has an identical copy, matched by its contents (SHA-256), not its name.
Choose the copy to keep in each group, then send the rest to the Recycle Bin. Nothing is deleted outright, so you can restore any of it.
File types
The Type column shows what each file really contains, like WAV 24-bit or MP3 320k. The Length column reads to the millisecond.
Some sample packs, including FL Studio's own, save FLAC or Ogg audio with a .wav name. WavSniper shows these in amber, for example FLAC (.wav). Some DAWs won't import them as they are, so WavSniper drags and exports them as standard WAVs. Hover the type to see why.

Library files and settings
File › Save library… writes your whole library, tags included, to a .wslib file. Load library… opens it again without a rescan.
The ⚙ button holds your settings: uppercase tags, scan on launch, evening out preview volume (loud samples play turned down), copying the file path when you select a sample, how many files to scan at once and the folder for converted files. Columns shows or hides columns.
Trial and license
WavSniper is free for 14 days. After that, a one-time license supports its developer and keeps every feature unlocked, with every update free. Support WavSniper and your key arrives by email, issued in your name.
When the trial ends, your library stays open and every sample still plays. Scanning, saving a library and dragging into your DAW need a license.
To activate, click ⓘ and choose Enter license. The same window checks for updates.
Next time an idea lands, the sound is a few keystrokes away.
